Dear John is a stationary box of original character sketches, rendered on vintage Eaton’s paper. Each series includes a handmade, limited edition box, numbered and signed by artist saltpeter (aka Michael Todd Cohen).

Process

These sketches were made over the course of three months, using a 2B pencil, mechanical pencil, and draft paper. Each "john" represents notions at the center of my queer adolescent experience in America in the 1990s: desire, distrust, love, loss, and longing. Each sketch is made through a process combining subconscious memory and active imagination to realize an abstract "character" of past experience.
